Law enforcement boosts presence at sensitive sites amid increased vigilance
NEW YORK — Major U.S. cities are stepping up security measures following Saturday night’s U.S. airstrikes on three key Iranian nuclear facilities. Authorities in New York City, Washington, D.C., Los Angeles, and Miami-Dade County are on high alert, deploying additional patrols near religious, cultural, and diplomatic locations.
The New York Police Department (NYPD) issued a statement on X, formerly Twitter, emphasizing that while there are no known credible threats at this time, the department is taking proactive steps.
“We’re tracking the situation unfolding in Iran,” the NYPD said. “Out of an abundance of caution, we’re deploying additional resources to religious, cultural, and diplomatic sites across NYC and coordinating with our federal partners. We’ll continue to monitor for any potential impact to NYC.”

In Washington, the Metropolitan Police Department echoed New York’s concerns and confirmed coordination with federal agencies to monitor intelligence and share information.
“We are actively coordinating with our local, state, and federal law enforcement partners to share information and monitor intelligence in order to help safeguard residents, businesses, and visitors in the District of Columbia,” the department said.
While no immediate threats have been identified, police said patrols will be increased at religious institutions across the capital.
On the West Coast, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass also addressed the public via X.
“There are no known credible threats at this time,” Bass stated. “But out of an abundance of caution, LAPD is stepping up patrols near places of worship, community gathering spaces, and other sensitive sites. We will remain vigilant in protecting our communities.”
Miami-Dade, NYPD Focus on Community Engagement and Intelligence Monitoring
Cyber surveillance and border monitoring efforts ramped up
In Florida, the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office joined other agencies in boosting security measures. A social media statement assured residents that officials are closely watching developments in the Middle East and increasing patrols throughout the county.
“The safety of our community remains our top priority. If you observe something suspicious, report it immediately,” the post read.
In New York, law enforcement is taking a layered approach that includes engaging with local communities and increasing visibility at sites considered at higher risk. Former NYPD intelligence officer Mauro told Fox News Digital that specific patrol units, known as “special attention patrols,” will be deployed to locations with ties to Israel or Iran’s Shia Muslim population.
“You never know what’s going to develop,” Mauro said. “So they’ll liaise with those communities, talk to them, and put special patrols in place. In some cases, they’ll even park marked cars—called ‘house of worship’ cars—directly outside locations.”
Beyond physical security, authorities are also closely monitoring online spaces for signs of extremist activity.
“You’re going to be monitoring a lot of the online chatter,” Mauro explained. “NYPD has a very robust cyber counterterrorism program, and you’re going to see that in full use right now.”
He added that the same goes for authorities in Washington and that Customs and Border Protection (CBP) will also be stepping up inspections.
“You’ll see increased scrutiny at borders and airports,” Mauro said. “CBP is going to be on high alert, paying close attention to who’s coming into the country.”
